When Cody Phillips opened EnergyFIT Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness Academy in January 2017, he introduced a way for the whole family to focus on fitness together.
“Our main goal is the whole family is in here for an hour, and then they go home,” Phillips said. “We would love the theme to be for mom and dad and kids to all be doing something at one gym.”
EnergyFIT Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness Academy offers Brazilian jiujitsu and Muay Thai classes for children and adults.
Brazilian Jiujitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on how smaller individuals can defend themselves against larger opponents by using proper technique and strategy, Phillips said. Muay Thai involves kickboxing techniques designed to maximize levels of cardio fitness and mental fortitude.
“We want to make sure people are walking out of the gym with confidence,” Phillips said. “Brazilian Jiujitsu and Mauy Thai [are]the foundation of what we do; they are the two most popular and most useful. Muay Thai is also bully prevention for kids to use. We teach kids how to protect themselves on the ground and then how to stand up and protect themselves.”
